Ten random facts about Deborah Lee

I often think websites of this ilk can become a mass of facts, posts and information and very quickly the personal touch is lost. But thanks to Ross Corbett (a.k.a. the Blighty Traveller) I was inspired to give this one a bit of a human injection, so here are ten random-type things about me ..

  1. I’m a born giggler. There are days when anything and everything makes me laugh. Only today I spent a good hour in stitches over “What did the beach say when the tide came in? Long time, no sea..” courtesy of my Twitter buddy Cindy Vriend. I never really grew out of that ‘giggling in the classroom’ phase; it’s a blessing more than a curse though ..
  2. I’m easily bored. I don’t know if it’s because I spent sixteen years in a sales environment but I’m always on the look out for a new challenge, a change of scenery or another focus. It might explain my tendency to rarely be able to sit through a film until the end ..
  3. I’m half-Polish. At the end of World War 2 my mum walked through Poland to Germany at the age of seven with her older sister and brother-in-law to catch a boat to England, where my grandfather was waiting for them. My grandfather, a radio operator with the Polish air force, spent the latter part of the war based at Melton Mowbray when they joined forces with the RAF. My grandmother unfortunately could not join them as she was terminally ill; she died a few months later at home in Poland. That was my family’s second world war tragedy.
  4. I’m obsessed with Lincolnshire’s World War 2 history. Being born and bred in the county it’s hard not to be moved by the huge contribution made by the RAF squadrons from the 54 airfields within Lincolnshire’s borders. 55,573 airmen serving in Bomber Command lost their lives as they fought to keep Europe free; we should never forget them.
  5. I love rugby! Now that my seven year old son plays I have little choice, but I have to say I seem to have taken to it like the proverbial duck to water. Yes, I can now regularly be found on a touchline on a wintry Sunday morning clutching a bacon buttie and shouting “run Ben, run!!”
  6. I make a mean meatballs and spaghetti. Actually I think it’s better with linguini rather than spaghetti, but you get the picture … tomatoey gorgeousness with lots of garlic and fresh parmesan. Mmmm .. truly scrumptious!
  7. I’m an all or nothing person. I never really adopt the halfway house position .. I’m either out or I’m 110% in.
  8. My first job was a travel agent. I’m sure a few people raised their eyebrows when I launched this site, but with the enormous potential to promote Lincolnshire to a global audience via social media it seemed the obvious thing to do.
  9. I’m not one for regrets. No-one ever made the right decision every step of the way. Living and learning through life’s mistakes is what shapes our character.
  10. I love being a mummy. It was a long time coming, but deciding to become a mother was the best choice I’ve ever made. And that’s despite the long hours, the ‘forever-empty’ purse and worrying what the future holds for him!
